The UW-Parkside women's basketball team led for more than 39 of the 40 minutes in a game with NCAA Division I SIU Edwardsville Thursday. The end result saw Cougar Jenny Wuest knock down a free throw with 0.1 showing on the clock to give her team a 52-51 win.
Jadee Rooney hit a clutch 15-footer with 8 seconds to go to give the Rangers a 51-50 lead. SIU Edwardsville came down floor, missed a shot before Wuest grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She nailed her first free throw to give the Cougars the win.
The Rangers led by as many as seven points in the first half and as many as eight in the second half. The halftime score was 26-24 in favor of UW-Parkside. SIU Edwardsville took its first lead on a three-point shot to open the second half, but the Rangers quickly scored and played from the lead.
Jen Moran had a career high in points and rebounds for the Rangers with 14 points and 13 rebounds. She secured her double-double just 3 minutes into the second half.
The Rangers had 26 turnovers in the game, while SIU Edwardsville had 14.
UW-Parkside shot 47 percent from the floor and held the Cougars to 37 percent shooting.
The Rangers will bring an 11-6 overall record into its next game, a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Saint Joseph's, Saturday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m.
