The name may have changed, but the results have not. Last year, Jessica Monson, known then as Jessica Lamp, was the individual champion at the Great Lakes Valley Conference cross country meet. The same held true in the 2008 meet as Monson crossed the finish line first in 20:43 for the 6K course in Rolla, Missouri.
Southern Indiana won the meet with a low team score of 39, beating out the Rangers who were second at 64. The win by the Screaming Eagles ended the four-year reign UW-Parkside had over the conference championship.
Two other Rangers earned all-conference honors, which went to the top 15 finishers.
Heidi Ertl finished in tenth place in a time of 22:34. Teammate
Hope Christie joined Ertl as an all-conference runner with a 12th place finish in 22:45.
"The women did a nice job to finish in second place," said UW-Parkside coach Mike DeWitt. "Southern Indiana has a solid team and I was hoping the score difference between us and them was not double, which it wasn't."
Monson won the race with a 16-second cushion over Southern Indiana's Mary Ballinger, who was second.
"Jessica ran her usual strong race," cited DeWitt. "She made a strong move over the last 4 kilometers."

MEN
Southern Indiana took the team championship in the men's race with a low score of 26. UW-Parkside finished in seventh place with a 173 count.
Rehan Mahmood was UW-Parkside's best runner at the GLVC meet. He was clocked in 26:44 for the 8k course in Rolla, Missouri. Mahmood was 12 seconds out of an all-conference position, which goes to the top 15 runners.
Ben Orvold raced strong with a 22nd place finish. He was timed in 26:51.
"The guys finished where I thought they would," said DeWitt.
The Rangers improved by three spots over last year, when they finished in tenth place at the conference meet.
