A cross country doubleheader of sorts took place on UW-Parkside's Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course on an unusually warm October Saturday afternoon. Six women's collegiate teams ran a 4K race, while the bulk of the competitors ran the 5K event at the annual Lucian Rosa Invitational. The 4K race had 56 finishers and the 5K featured 31 teams and had 316 women cross the finish line.

“We intentionally split our teams,” explained UW-Parkside head coach Mike DeWitt. “Our second group ran the 4K because we wanted them to run toward the front of the pack and have an opportunity to have a leader emerge out of that group.”

Lindenwood won the 4K race with a team score of 30. Host UW-Parkside was second with 42.

Francine Nzilampa of the NAIA's Lindenwood was the 4K winner in 14:36. She was a full 24 seconds ahead of teammate Yasmina Elkasmi. UW-Parkside sophomore Whitney Olson (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) was third, clocked in 15:49.

Other UW-Parkside scorers in the 4K are all sophomores and include Jessica Enderby (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski), sixth, 15:57; Jennie Kindt (Ontario, Wis./Brookwood), tenth, 16:04; Amber McClure (Racine, Wis./Case), 11th, 16:04; and Kim Degener (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford), 12th, 16:04.

Ferris State championed the women's 5K race with a low score of 98. Indiana Tech was second with 159. The host Rangers checked in fifth place with 195.

Justina Mudy a sophomore from Shorter College was the individual 5K winner with a time of 17:26. Senior Jessica Monson (Powers Lake, Wis./Westosha) of UW-Parkside was second in 17:43.

Other UW-Parkside scorers include junior Heidi Ertl (Marshfield, Wis./Spencer), 15th 19:06; sophomore Hope Christie (Somers, Wis./Bradford), 31st, 19:30; sophomore Angie Adams (Ontario, Wis./Brookwood), 56th, 19:57; and senior Heidi Andersen (Racine, Wis./Park), 20:37.

“The women have shown consistent improvements since our last race here, three weeks ago,' said DeWitt. “It was a nice, solid job today.”
