It was a perfect way for Alumni Day to draw to a close. After an exciting women's overtime victory, the Ranger men posted a heart-pounding 79-76 victory in front of 1,667 screaming fans in the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Clark regained his shooting touch, scoring 25 points on 7-12 shooting. The Ranger senior was five of seven from three-point land.
The game was tied at 72-72 with 2:03 left in the basketball game. A huge three-point shot by Kyle Jeffery with 41 ticks left allowed the Rangers to play from the front. Dave Keane was clutch down the stretch, knocking down all four of his free throws in the final 14 seconds.
Lewis shot 52 percent for the game. The Rangers made good on 45 percent of their shots. The rebounding battle was fierce. UW-Parkside corralled 33 missed shots compared to 32 for the Flyers.
Jeffery scored 13 points in the winning effort. Tyrone Deacon and Keane had 10 each.
The win lofts the Ranger record to 12-5 overall and 5-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Despite the Rangers' above .500 record in league play, the team is at the bottom of the brutally tough Eastern Division. UW-Parkside has won five of its last six in league play.
The Rangers came out of the blocks early, taking a 24-14 lead. Lewis led only briefly in the second half, by one point in three different instances.
