Kentucky buzzsaw runs through Rangers

    Box Score

The good news for the Rangers men's basketball team is Saturday's onslaught in Owensboro counts for only one loss. The bad news was Kentucky Wesleyan College put a 90-50 hurtin' on UW-Parkside, sending the Rangers to their fourth conference loss in six outings.

The Panthers pounced on the Rangers, clawing their way to an early 12-2 advantage. After the visitors pulled to within four at 16-12 in the Owensboro Sportscenter, Kentucky Wesleyan found a higher gear and pushed the lead to 17 at 33-16 just 4 minutes later.

The score stood at 45-22 at halftime.

The second half saw much the same, as the Panthers out-scored the Rangers, 45-28.

            T. J. Smith notched a rare triple double for Kentucky Wesleyan with 13 points, 13 assists and 15 rebounds. Teammate Jeff Fahnbulleh logged 29 points and 15 rebounds.

Cold shooting on the part of the Rangers played a major role in the lopsided score. The team was just 16 of 64 from the floor for 23 percent. The Panthers cleaned up the missed shots, out-rebounding their adversaries from the Dairy State by a decided 54-21 gap, all while connecting on two-thirds of their shots.

UW-Parkside is 9-5 overall and will play its next three games at home, where they have only lost one game since November of 2006. Missouri S&T is first up – that game will be played Thursday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Pull down 'Game Day' on the upper right-hand corner of this website for options to listen, view or digest live stats.
