SIUE continues to have Rangers' number

After beating the UW-Parkside men's soccer team twice in as many tries last season, the SIU Edwardsville Cougars picked up where they left off, posting a 5-0 victory over the Rangers Friday night. The game was played at warm Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Illinois.

The Cougars, ranked No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, scored on five of the seven shots on goal they put on Ranger netminder Jamie Lieberman (Racine, Wis.). The first goal set the tone and came just 5:17 into the contest. UW-Parkside put six shots on net in the contest. The Cougars led, 2-0, at halftime.

The loss drops the Rangers to 6-3 overall and an uncharacteristic 2-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. SIU Edwardsville, a school which will move to the NCAA Division I level next season, upped its record to 4-1-1 overall and an undefeated 4-0-1 in the GLVC.

The Rangers go for a split on the weekend road trip when it plays at Quincy on Sunday, Sept. 23. A 2:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled.
