The Findlay University men's basketball team won its 51st consecutive regular season home game Saturday afternoon, but not without a serious challenge from visiting UW-Parkside. The host Oilers, ranked No. 15 in the nation, prevailed in the non-conference game, 64-60.
The Rangers surrendered a 13-point lead in the second half. The visitors held that margin with 12:31 to go in the game with a 46-33 advantage.
Findlay methodically made up ground and eventually surpassed the Rangers at 53-52 with an even 4 minutes to go in the game. The game was knotted at 56 apiece when Brad Ferstenou fouled out at the 3:07 mark.
The Oilers, now 10-2, went up for good when Marcus Parker gave his team a 58-56 lead on a pair of free throws with 2:41 remaining.
The Rangers' biggest run came in the first half. Findlay led, 16-10, before the Rangers went on a 9-0 run, taking a 19-16 lead. UW-Parkside held the lead until the 4-minute mark of the second half. The team led, 28-26 at halftime.
Kyle Jeffery had his best game as a Ranger. He scored a team-high 19 points while pulling down nine rebounds. Tyrone Deacon and LaVontay Fenderson each had 10 points for UW-Parkside.
The Rangers, now 7-3, return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play for the remainder of the regular season. The team will host Indianapolis Thursday, Jan. 3, at 7:30 p.m. That game, and all Ranger games, can be heard live locally on WRJN 1400AM.
