Rangers handle Northland Baptist

The Ranger men's basketball team won in box-to-wire fashion over visiting Northland Baptist Bible College Saturday afternoon. UW-Parkside downed the visitors, 73-44, in the DeSimone Gymnasium.

UW-Parkside was up, 39-17 at halftime and gradually extended its lead throughout the second half with mostly reserve players in the game. The Rangers committed only one turnover in the entire first half.

LaVontay Fenderson (Racine, Wis.) paced the Rangers in scoring with 17 points. He shot 7-11 from the floor. Matt Hein (Beaver Dam, Wis.) came off the bench to tally 11 points on the strength of 3-4 shooting from behind the arc. Craig Cunnigham (Racine, Wis.) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Northland Baptist was led in scoring by Joel Widmer who notched a dozen points. Ben Summers was the other double digit scorer with 10.

UW-Parkside shot 41 percent for the game, while Northland Baptist was an even 40 percent. The Rangers out-rebounded their foes, 40-33.

The Rangers will return to action Wednesday, Dec. 19, when Illinois Tech comes calling. The game will be played at the DeSimone Gymnasium starting at 7 p.m.
