For the second consecutive season, UW-Parkside and Michigan Tech went to overtime as part of the GLVC-GLIAC Challenge. Last year, the homestanding Huskies pulled out the win. This time, the host Rangers won a thrilling 78-71 victory.
The game was knotted at 67-67 at the end of regulation. The Rangers out-scored the Huskies 11-4 in the extra 5-minute session.
LaVontay Fenderson led the Rangers with 22 points. Tyrone Deacon added 15 points, while Kyle Clark and Brad Ferstenou notched 13 apiece.
The Rangers were solid at the free throw line, making good on 24 of 29 free throws. The rebounding margin was stood at 32-30 in favor of the Rangers.
Michigan Tech shot an even 50 percent for the game. UW-Parkside made good on 46 percent in the opener for both teams.
The Rangers will return to action Saturday night, hosting Lake Superior State.
Tim Strahm led Michigan Tech with 20 points.
