The UW-Parkside men's soccer squad went up against strong odds and an even stronger opponent when it traveled to Northern Kentucky for a Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinal match-up Sunday afternoon. The Norse came into the contest with a perfect 18-0 record and a No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II.
Northern Kentucky won the match, 3-0, ending the Rangers' season.
"The first half we played okay," summed up UW-Parkside head coach Rick Kilps. "The second half they turned up the pressure and we just could not match them. They showed they are No. 1 in the NCAA. I tip my hat to NKU to have put together an undefeated season with only five goals allowed in 19 games."
The Norse had six shots on goal compared to one for the Rangers.
The Rangers ended the 2007 season with an 11-7-1 overall record.
The game marked the final appearance in a Ranger uniform for seniors Bojan Jovicic (Milwaukee, Wis.), Victor Perez (Kenosha, Wis.) and Josh Lechusz (Kenosha, Wis.). The trio had a record of 50-19-9.
UW-Parkside has finished four or more games above the .500 mark in every season since 1981. UW-P has strung together 28 winning seasons and has appeared in the GLVC tournament all 13 seasons it has been in the league.
