Andrew Hylen joined the Parkside cross country and track and field coaching staff as an assistant coach in August of 2026.
Hylen arrives at Parkside after spending the 2025-26 season as a graduate assistant distance coach at Grand Valley State University. In that role, he assisted with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, monitored student-athlete academic progress and supported the Lakers' distance program through workout tracking, training and race-day responsibilities.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Hylen was a member of the Grand Valley State cross country and track and field programs from 2019-25. From 2019-25, he served as a counselor at the Grand Valley State Cross Country Camp and also worked with the TUFF Camp by Athletes in Action and Northeast Ohio Cross Country Camp. In those roles, he led group runs and workouts while teaching warm-up and cool-down techniques.
In addition to his coaching experience, Hylen has a background in education and student-athlete development. He completed a student-teaching internship at C.A. Frost Middle High Environmental Academy and later served as a facilitator for Grand Valley State's SASC Scholars College Success Course. He was also involved with Lakers Listen, a student-athlete mental health awareness initiative, throughout his collegiate career.
Hylen earned his bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State in 2023, majoring in secondary education, English and psychology. He earned his Master of Education in higher education student affairs administration from Grand Valley State in May of 2026
