KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside men's soccer team only needed one goal to take down their former GLVC rival Maryville, and it came at the very beginning of the match. It was the first time since 2017 the Rangers have taken down the Saints.
Stefan Zekanovic scored at 1:48, and the Rangers carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. The goal was off of bad defense from Maryville's keeper. Zekanovic, who subbed in less than two minutes into the match due to an injury, stepped up on the Maryville keeper (Asgrimur Vidisson), who tried to clear it away but wasn't aware Zekanovic was right next to him, and Zekanovic blocked his clearance attempt into the back of the net. It was in the second minute of the entire match and would prove to be the only goal. The Rangers generated 10 additional recorded shots and four corners in the half, while Maryville had three shots and one corner; Asgrimur Vidisson made five saves to keep the margin at one.
With 18:50 left in the first half, the game was delayed for almost 2 and a half hours due to 1.5 inches of rain and lightning in the Kenosha area. However, that didn't slow down the Rangers.
Parkside withstood four strong Maryville offensive opportunities from 79:56 to 88:35 without conceding, part of a second half in which they made five saves. Maryville outshot the Rangers 10-5 in the second half and earned all four corners, but
Mateusz Pass made five saves as the teams played the half scoreless. The Rangers put one second-half shot on goal and held the 1-0 score through the final whistle.
Zekanovic scored the unassisted game-winning goal and finished with three shots. Pass made five saves over 90 minutes and recorded a shutout. Pablo Seco put all three of his shots on goal to lead the Rangers in shots on frame.
The Rangers are 2-1-0 to begin the year. Parkside takes the lead in the all-time series against Maryville, 8-7-0. Maryville is now 1-2-0 to start 2026.
