KENOSHA, Wis. —(RV) Parkside defeated Lake Superior St. 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-18) on Saturday. Parkside hit .365 with 41 kills and eight aces while holding Lake Superior St. to a .088 hitting percentage. The team has registered at least 41 kills for the sixth consecutive game.
With the opening set tied 3-3,
Emily Zaper's kill put Parkside ahead, and
Samantha Molenhouse followed at the service line with her first ace of the season as Zaper added two more kills and
Hailey Warfel added a kill before a block by
Maia Olson and Zaper made it 9-3. After Elisa Rizzoli's kill stopped that stretch at 9-4, Olson answered with a kill, and Zaper then served five straight points, recording two aces around an
Avary Polavin kill and Lake Superior St. errors to make it 15-4.
Sierra Kilbourn's kill later gave Parkside a 20-10 lead, and Molenhouse served four straight points behind two Olson kills, a block involving Zaper, Olson and Warfel, and a Warfel kill to reach 24-10. Lake Superior St. scored the next three points before Zaper's kill from Warfel closed the set, 25-13.
After Lake Superior St. moved in front 2-1, Parkside scored seven straight points to build an 8-2 lead, with
Lauren Peters serving six consecutive points that included her ace and a
Monica Lukasiewicz kill from
Lucy Russ. Lake Superior St. got back-to-back points to make it 8-4, but Parkside answered with six straight, highlighted by a Kilbourn kill, consecutive
Natalie Harris aces, and a Kilbourn-Olson block for a 14-4 advantage. Zaper,
Abby Alms, Olson, and Dani Kopacz added kills as Parkside pushed the set to 22-7. Lake Superior St. scored five of the next seven points, but a service error gave Parkside set point at 24-11, and Kilbourn closed the 25-12 set with a kill from Russ. Harris recorded a season-high of three serve aces during the match.
After Ava Tarsi opened the third set with an ace for Lake Superior St., Parkside scored the next six points, getting a Kilbourn kill, a Harris ace, and two Zaper kills to move ahead 6-1. Lake Superior St. cut the margin to 8-5 on kills by Morgan Deming and Elisa Rizzoli, but Parkside kept the lead through the middle of the set and pushed it to 14-8 during Peters' serve. After Lake Superior St. pulled within 18-15, Parkside took three straight points on kills by Alms, Dani Kopacz, and Lukasiewicz to extend the lead to 21-15. Lukasiewicz and Kilbourn added late kills before Zaper finished the set with a kill from Russ for a 25-18 Parkside win. Alms achieved a season-high hitting percentage of 0.571, and Kopacz recorded a season-high hitting percentage of 0.333.
Parkside was led by
Emily Zaper, who recorded 10 kills, two service aces, three blocks and 13.5 points.
Maia Olson added seven kills, five blocks and 9.5 points, while
Monica Lukasiewicz was perfect offensively, recording six kills on six attempts for a 1.000 hitting percentage and adding one block.
Natalie Harris anchored the defense with 14 digs while contributing three service aces and three assists.
Lucy Russ paced the offense with 15 assists and added six digs and one service ace.
