KENOSHA, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Parkside (2-0-0) secured a 4-2 victory over Lewis University (0-2-0) on Sunday at Wood Road Field. The Rangers scored three second-half goals to seal the win, marking the third time in the last four seasons that Parkside has started 2-0.
Rilyn Breinholt notched her first collegiate goal from four shots.
Lindsey Ferrara was effective in goal, making four saves over 90 minutes to secure the win.
Mary Leininger scored the game-winning goal with her only shot on target, bringing her total to three goals in her first two collegiate games.
Kate Brown had a versatile performance with one goal and two assists, she now has five points in the first two matches of the season.
The first period kicked off with the Flyers taking an early lead at 9:19 when Olive Tinucci scored with assists from Talia Kaempf and Anna Linsler. Parkside responded with consistent offensive pressure, culminating in a goal by
Rilyn Breinholt at 32:26, assisted by
Kate Brown, leveling the score. Despite several attempts from both teams, neither side managed to break the deadlock before the period ended, closing with a 1-1 tie.
Parkside surged ahead in the second period with a decisive goal by
Kate Brown in the 54th minute, tapping in a perfect pass from
Lindsay Dahlinger, bringing the score to 2-1. The Flyers quickly responded with an equalizer by Olive Tinucci in the 59th minute. The Rangers regained their lead in the 79th minute when
Mary Leininger scored, with assists from
Kate Brown and
Emily Slye. Slye played a perfect pass forward to Brown up the left wing, who then sent a pass into the the box, where Leininger netted the game winner..
Ava Rizzitano added insurance for the Rangers in the 90th minute, again assisted by Slye.
Parkside holds an undefeated record of 2-0-0. The Flyers fall to 0-2-0 on the season.
