Late-Inning Heroics Lift Parkside to Series Split at Saginaw Valley

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Parkside baseball capped its weekend series with a hard earned win on Sunday, outlasting Saginaw Valley State 14-12 in a 10-inning thriller to earn a split. The result marks the Rangers' first series split at University Center since 2019.

The Rangers showed resilience throughout, overcoming an early 4-1 deficit and multiple late-game swings before erupting for four runs in the 10th inning to secure the victory.

After surrendering four runs in the bottom of the first, Parkside responded quickly. RBI hits from Angel Rades and Benjamin Loyd in the second cut the deficit to one, and Joe Mrowiec's solo home run in the fourth evened the game at 4-4.

Parkside grabbed its first lead in the fifth, using a sacrifice fly from Nolan Maciejewski and an RBI single from Mrowiec to go in front 6-5. The game remained tightly contested from there, with Saginaw Valley chipping away to take an 8-6 lead after seven innings.

The Rangers began their late push in the eighth when Josh Wicker doubled home a run to make it 8-7. In the ninth, Parkside plated three runs, including another RBI hit from Wicker to extend the Parkside lead to 10-8.

Saginaw Valley answered in the bottom half with a two-run home run from Brady Carpenter, sending the game to extra innings tied at 10-10

In the 10th, Parkside delivered the decisive blow. Two runs came home to score for Parkside on a John St. Clair bunt single after the ensuing throw got away from the SVSU pitcher. Mrowiec followed with his second home run of the game, a two-run shot that extended the advantage to 14-10.

Saginaw Valley threatened in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice and bringing the tying run to the plate, but Kyler Kennen recorded the final out to seal the win.

Mrowiec led the offensive effort, finishing 3-for-t with two home runs and four RBI's. Wicker added three hits and two RBI's, while Loyd also tallied three hits, including a triple. Rades reached base five times with two hits and three walks, driving in two.

On the mound, Carson Klaus (1-1) earned the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings with five strikeouts. Kennen closed the door in the 10th to secure the save.

The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they take on Viterbo University in non-conference action from Historic Simmons Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm. Links to coverage can be found at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
