KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside fell in both games of Friday's doubleheader against the University of Indianapolis at Historic Simmons Field, losing 6–5 in a close opener and 10–4 in the nightcap. The Rangers rallied late in game one but UIndy responded in the final innings, then pulled away with a big fifth in game two to take the win.
Game 1
UIndy struck first in the second inning, using a double from Brayton Bowen and an RBI groundout by Carter Thomas to take a 1–0 lead. The Greyhounds added a big inning in the fourth, plating three runs on a two-RBI single from Thomas and an RBI single by Joey Humphrey to extend the lead to 4–0.
Parkside answered in the bottom half of the fourth with a three-run rally.
Carter Storti got the Rangers on the board with an RBI single, followed by RBI walks from
Nathan Hanel and
Dylan Sayles to cut the deficit to 4–3.
The Rangers continued the momentum in the fifth inning, taking their first lead of the game. After
Josh Wicker and
Noah Goddard reached base, Storti drove in the tying run with a groundout.
Joe Mrowiec followed with an RBI single to give Parkside a 5–4 advantage.
On the mound,
Keegan Waters got the start for Parkside, allowing four runs over four innings while striking out three.
Isaiah Terrell provided solid relief, going 2.1 innings and allowing just one run while striking out two.
Leo Berger took the loss, surrendering the go-ahead run in the ninth while striking out four across 2.2 innings.
UIndy responded in the seventh inning, tying the game at 5–5 on an RBI single from Solen Munson. The Greyhounds then took the lead for good in the ninth, capitalizing on a leadoff double by Gavin Duran and a bases-loaded walk from Garrett Rusch to make it 6–5.
Parkside threatened in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out single from
Angel Rades, but the rally fell short as UIndy closed out the win.
Carter Storti led the way offensively for Parkside with two RBIs, including a key hit during the fourth-inning rally, while
Joe Mrowiec added the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth.
Angel Rades turned in a strong performance at the plate with two hits and a run scored, and
Noah Goddard contributed with a hit and a run during the Rangers' comeback effort.
On the mound,
Isaiah Terrell was effective in relief, allowing just one run over 2.1 innings with two strikeouts, while
Leo Berger struck out four hitters in his outing and kept Parkside within striking distance late in the game.
Game 2
Parkside fell in game two of Friday's doubleheader to the University of Indianapolis, 10–4, at Historic Simmons Field.
UIndy got on the board early in the first inning, capitalizing on a Parkside error before Chase Mason delivered an RBI single to make it 1–0. Parkside answered in the third, tying the game at 1–1 when
Joe Mrowiec came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Benjamin Loyd.
The game remained tight until the fifth inning, when UIndy broke things open with a six-run frame. The Greyhounds took advantage of multiple Parkside errors and timely hitting, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Garrett Rusch and an RBI single from Austin Pokley, to take a commanding 7–1 lead.
Parkside responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own.
Carter Storti and
Joe Mrowiec each reached base to spark the rally, while Loyd and
Josh Wicker drove in runs to cut the deficit to 7–3.
On the mound,
Brennen Miller started for the Rangers, going 4.1 innings and allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out six.
Austin Grube came on in relief, giving up two runs over 1.2 innings, and
Chase Powrozek tossed the final inning, allowing three runs.
UIndy added to its lead in the seventh inning, scoring three more runs behind an RBI single from Bret Perry and a two-RBI double by Mason to extend the lead to 10–3.
Parkside managed one final run in the bottom of the seventh, as Mrowiec tripled to center field and later scored on a groundout by
Angel Rades, but the comeback fell short.
Joe Mrowiec led the way offensively for Parkside with a strong performance, going 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored, and a walk.
Benjamin Loyd added two RBIs, while
Josh Wicker contributed an RBI hit and
Mason Mitacek chipped in with a double.
On the mound,
Brennen Miller struck out six hitters in his start, while
Austin Grube provided 1.2 innings in relief, and
Chase Powrozek closed out the game for the Rangers.
