KENOSHA, Wis. – Casey Jo Vermett of the Parkside softball team has been named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career following a dominant two-start stretch in the circle.
Vermett turned in a historic performance on Thursday, tossing the 18th no-hitter in program history in game two of a doubleheader at Quincy. The right-hander struck out a career-high 14 batters in the 7-0 victory, becoming just the 11th player in program history to record a no-hitter as the Rangers completed the sweep.
She followed that outing with another standout performance on Saturday against Grand Valley State, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out eight in a 2-0 win in game two of the doubleheader.
For the week, Vermett went 2-0, totaling 14 shutout innings while striking out 22 batters and issuing just five walks across two complete-game efforts.
She currently leads the GLIAC with 66 strikeouts this season and is averaging more than nine strikeouts per seven innings.
