Ranger Men Start Strong at GLIAC Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Parkside Rangers men opened competition at the GLIAC Indoor Championships Saturday at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, recording multiple qualifying performances and scoring efforts across track and field events. The Rangers sit in fifth with 11.5 points after the opening day of competition.
 
Ian Liburd led the way on the track, advancing to the finals of the 60 meters with a runner-up finish in prelims (6.85), matching his school record he set back of February 7th. Liburd also qualified for the 200-meter final after running a personal-best and school record setting 21.69.
 
In the hurdles, Michael Hendrix posted a quality effort of 8.12 to qualify for the final, improving to No. 52 on the Division II list, while Mate Pesti advanced on time (8.40).
 
Hendrix later secured another finals berth in the 400 meters, qualifying sixth overall in a personal-best 49.27.
 
The distance crew picked up team points in the 5,000 meters, led by Connor Sheahan's eighth-place finish (15:04.30) for one point.
 
Parkside's distance medley relay delivered a major highlight, placing second in 10:01.29. The quartet of Cayton Cratch, Carter Peet, Amadeo Cortes Leclou, and Doug Martin earned eight team points with the silver-medal performance.
 
In the field events, Ariel Molina scored in the long jump with an eighth-place mark of 6.60 meters, while Lincoln Myer placed 10th (6.46m). Ryan Peel added points in the pole vault, clearing 4.54 meters for seventh place.
 
Multi-event athletes Carson Hull and Nick Katsma positioned themselves well in the heptathlon. Hull won the long jump (6.41m) and added runner-up finishes in the shot put (11.01m) and high jump (1.75m), while Katsma recorded consistent marks including a personal-best 10.62m in the shot put.
