HOUGHTON, MICH. --- The Parkside Rangers came up short on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 battle to Michigan Tech (25-23, 26-24, 25-27, 25-22) inside the Student Development Gym. With the result, the Rangers moved to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in GLIAC play.
The two teams played a tight match throughout, with all four sets decided by three points or fewer. After dropping the opener 25-23, Parkside rallied late in the second but fell just short, 26-24, despite putting together one of their strongest frames of the day with four blocks, two service aces, and a .231 hitting percentage. The Rangers refused to go quietly, outlasting the Huskies 27-25 in set three behind 16 total kills, four blocks, and a .208 attack percentage while holding Michigan Tech to just .119. In the fourth, Parkside kept the pressure on but ultimately fell 25-22, hitting .116 in the final frame as the Huskies secured the win.
Offensively, Parkside was led by
Sam Fisch, who tallied a match-high 20 kills to go with 22.5 points and five blocks.
Ava Irvin added 14 kills at a .294 clip along with nine digs, while
Abby Alms chipped in eight kills. Setter
Lucy Russ directed the attack with 34 assists and added eight digs and a service ace. Defensively,
Natalie Harris anchored the back row with 33 digs — her second-highest total this season — while
Maia Olson contributed four kills, three aces, and three blocks.
Rachel Mueller also stepped up with eight digs and a service ace.
The Rangers will now return home for a two-match weekend, beginning Friday, Oct. 3, when they host Ferris State inside DeSimone Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
