Rangers continue GLIAC slate vs Saginaw Valley State, at Purdue Northwest

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Parkside women's soccer team continues GLIAC play with two matches this week, hosting Saginaw Valley State on Friday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. CDT at Wood Road Field in the finale of a three-match homestand before traveling to Hammond, to face Purdue Northwest on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. CDT at Pepsi Field.

The Rangers (1-3-2, 1-0-1 GLIAC) enter the week tied for second in the league with four points after a 1-1 draw against Michigan Tech and a 2-1 win over Northern Michigan, where sophomore Lindsay Dahlinger buried the second-half winner. Senior midfielder/forward Emily Mikkelson has two assists and six shots on goal among 11 total shots to lead the chance creation, Dahlinger is on the conference ledger for game-winning goals after her 55th-minute strike versus Northern Michigan. In net, senior Tristen Cross ranks among the league leaders in saves per game.

SCOUTING SAGINAW VALLEY STATE:
Saginaw Valley State (3-2-1, 1-1-0 GLIAC) opened conference play splitting a road weekend, falling 2-0 at Grand Valley State before topping Davenport 2-1. Earlier non-conference results included a 6-0 win over Walsh and a 3-1 victory at Findlay. The Cardinals were picked second in the GLIAC preseason coaches' poll. Senior goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 and enters with a .833 save percentage while ranking among the conference leaders in saves. Up top, Madi Bajis is tied for the GLIAC lead with four goals and sits near the top of the shots and shots-on-goal charts. Returning 2024 All-GLIAC honorees include Bajis (First Team), Stephanie Strong (Second), Grace Miller (Second), Solana Kelly (Second) and Brianna Cobbs (Honorable Mention).

Parkside trails the all-time series 1-14-2. The Cardinals won the most recent meeting, 3-1, on Oct. 25, 2024, in University Center, Mich. The Rangers are 1-6-2 at home in the series.

SCOUTING PURDUE NORTHWEST:
Purdue Northwest (2-1-2, 0-1-0 GLIAC) dropped its league opener 1-0 at Ferris State after an unbeaten four-match non-conference start that featured wins over Quincy (3-2) and Truman State (2-0) and draws against Lewis (1-1) and Winona State (0-0). The Pride were tied for sixth in the GLIAC preseason poll. Offensively, forward Mia Davis has three goals to pace the attack, while Yoselin Garcia is among the GLIAC assists leaders with two. In goal, Poppy Jackson owns a 0.80 goals-against average with two shutouts. As a team, PNW leads the league in assists (11) and sits near the top in fewest goals allowed (five in six matches).

Parkside leads the series 8-2-2, though the Pride took the last meeting, 1-0, on Oct. 18, 2024, in Hammond. The Rangers are 4-2 away against Purdue Northwest.
