Three Unanswered Lift Parkside to 3–1 Win at Northern Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Parkside men's soccer rallied for its first win of the 2025 season — and first in GLIAC play — with a 3-1 victory at Northern Michigan on Friday afternoon. After falling behind early, the Rangers stormed back with three unanswered goals, including one in the final second of the first half, to take control and earn a much-needed road win.

The Wildcats jumped ahead in the 9th minute when Luca Rosen buried a penalty kick to make it 1-0 NMU. Northern Michigan kept the pressure on with seven first-half shots, but goalkeeper Daniyal Rana made multiple saves, including stops on Teun Van Gansewinkel and Rosen, to keep the deficit at one.

Parkside equalized it in the 31st minute when Eduardo Aguilera-Guillen converted a penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1. It marked the team-leading third goal of the season for Aguilera-Guillen.

The momentum swung Parkside's way in dramatic fashion just before halftime. With only seconds remaining, Hudson Scheiber delivered a ball just outside the 18 where Nico De Andres sent a last-second shot on frame that deflected off a Northern Michigan defender and into the net, giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead going into the break.

The Rangers added insurance in the 55th minute. Jamie Le Comte slipped a perfectly timed pass through the NMU back line, and freshman Yeison Santos buried his first career goal as a Ranger to put Parkside up 3-1.

Northern Michigan held a 16-9 advantage in total shots and 8-4 edge in shots on goal, but the Rangers were clinical, scoring on three of their four shots on frame. Rana finished with seven saves, including two more stops on Rosen in the second half to keep the Wildcats off the board.

With the victory, Parkside improves to 1-2-1 (1-0-0 GLIAC) and will be off for the rest of the weekend before traveling next week to face Roosevelt and Purdue Northwest. For more information, visit parksiderangers.com/coverage.
