Clutch Plays Lift Rangers Over Winona State at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team kept its unbeaten start rolling on Friday night, defeating Winona State in four sets (22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 28-26) inside De Simone Arena. With the victory, the Rangers improve to 5-0 on the year, while the Warriors fall to 3-3.

After dropping the opening set, Parkside responded with poise, hitting .235 in the second frame to even the match. The Rangers then hit an impressive .300 in the third set to hold off a late push from Winona State before rallying in a dramatic fourth. With the score tied 26-26, Abby Alms delivered a crucial kill, and a timely, match-winning kill from Lucy Russ sealed the 28-26 victory.

Balanced offense powered the Rangers, with four players reaching double-digit kills. Ava Irvin led the charge with 17 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double, while Sam Fisch contributed 14 kills on a .323 attack percentage. Abby Alms chipped in 11 kills, and Maia Olson was efficient with eight kills while, hitting .500 on the night. Olson also added 4 blocks. Setter Lucy Russ directed the attack with 37 assists and 10 digs, recording her sixth consecutive double-double of the season.

Defensively, libero Natalie Harris anchored the back row with a season-high 32 digs, while Rachel Mueller added 14 digs and sparked the Rangers from the service line with 4 aces.

Parkside hit .229 as a team compared to Winona State's .182, and the Rangers finished with a slight edge in kills (62-53) while also dominating at the net with 14 total blocks. 

The Rangers return to action Saturday as they continue play in the Hampton Inn Invitational, taking on Bemidji State at 1:30 p.m. and Missouri S&T at 6 p.m.
