Rangers Sweep McKendree to Stay Perfect at 4-0

KENOSHA, WIS. — The Parkside volleyball team kept its early-season momentum rolling with a dominant sweep over McKendree on Thursday night inside De Simone Arena. The Rangers (4-0, 0-0 GLIAC) controlled the match from start to finish, dispatching the Bearcats (0-5, 0-0 GLVC) in straight sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-18.

Parkside set the tone early, hitting .432 in the opening set — their best attacking percentage in a single set this season— while holding McKendree to just six kills and never trailing. The Bearcats responded in the second with their best stretch of the night, hitting .250 and forcing several tight rallies, but timely swings from Ava Irvin and Abby Alms helped the Rangers pull away late for a 25-21 win. In the third, Parkside relied on balanced offense and steady defense, with Sam Fisch and Mariena Coon delivering key kills while Natalie Harris and Lucy Russ anchored the back row, sealing the sweep 25-18.

Pin hitter Ava Irvin powered the offense with a match-high 14 kills on .345 hitting, while fellow hitter Sam Fisch added 10 kills at a .368 clip. Abby Alms chipped in eight kills, and Mariena Coon provided seven kills while hitting a blistering .500.

Setter Lucy Russ directed the attack with 37 assists and 11 digs, posting her fourth consecutive double-double to start the season. She also added a service ace in another all-around effort. On the defensive end, libero Natalie Harris anchored the back row with 17 digs, keeping rallies alive and frustrating the Bearcat attack.

Overall, Parkside hit .317 as a team, outpacing McKendree's .126 mark, while also tallying 55 digs and 13 block assists to control the net and the floor.

The victory marks Parkside's best start to a season since 2012, with the Rangers now sitting at 4-0 on the year. Parkside continues play in the Hampton Inn Invitational on Friday night, hosting Winona State at 7 p.m. inside De Simone Arena.
