ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior ace
Ellie Curtis delivered one of the most dominant performances of the postseason on Friday, throwing her second no-hitter of the year to lead Parkside past Ferris State, 3-0, in a GLIAC Tournament elimination game at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
With their season on the line, the Rangers (27-23) turned to Curtis, and she delivered in spectacular fashion. The right-hander faced just two batters over the minimum, striking out four, walking one, and retiring the final nine hitters she faced to seal the no-hitter —her second of the 2025 campaign. Curtis improved to 9-3 on the year, needing just 90 pitches in the complete-game shutout.
Parkside's offense took some time to break through against Ferris State starter Caitlyn Bell, who scattered seven hits and struck out six over seven innings. But the Rangers steadily chipped away, scoring single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings — more than enough support with Curtis in command.
The breakthrough came in the fourth after
Haley Remington opened the inning with a single and stole second base. She moved to third on a hit by
Ava Swain and scored the game's first run on an RBI groundout from
Megan Medlin.
Remington stayed hot in the fifth, delivering a two-out RBI single to left-center to bring home
Reese Valha and push the lead to 2-0. The speedy center fielder finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base, providing the spark Parkside needed at the top of the order.
In the sixth, the Rangers added insurance. After a walk to Medlin and a single by
Toni Rodriguez, second baseman
Rylee Baetz drove in pinch-runner
Logan Sivak with a clean single up the middle to make it 3-0. Baetz went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and was one of four Rangers with a multi-base hit performance.
Ferris State (28-19), which came into the game averaging nearly five runs per contest, never found an answer for Curtis's efficient mix of speed and location. The Bulldogs didn't get a hit and had just two runners reach base — one on a walk and another on a fielder's choice. They had just one runner advance a runner past first base the entire game.
The loss eliminates Ferris State from the tournament, while Parkside stays alive and advances to face Wayne State in another elimination game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. With a win the Rangers would take on the loser of the semifinal game between Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State for a spot in the GLIAC Championship on Sunday.
