Parkside Off to Grand Rapids for Four-Game Battle With Top-Seeded Davenport

4/9/2025 1:07:00 PM

Kenosha, Wis. – Parkside, fresh off back-to-back series victories, is set for a four-game set against Davenport slated for this weekend. Davenport, currently ranked No. 23 in the nation and first in GLIAC, poses Parkside's biggest test yet.

Scouting Parkside:

  • The Rangers' historic season has continued, as they have already surpassed their win total from last season, with 23 wins under their belt.

  • Their 8-4 conference record also has them in a position to break a record for most GLIAC wins in a season (10 in 2024).

  • Parkside is two wins away from matching their win total from 2006 (25), but still chasing their tremendous 2005 season in which they collected 45 wins.

  • Now past the midway point of the conference season, Parkside still leads the GLIAC in team batting average (.343).

  • Owen Brock and Peter Fusek remain in the top ten in the nation in batting average.

    • Brock: .481 – third in nation, best in conference

    • Fusek: .460 – sixth in nation, third in conference

  • Parkside has showcased their power throughout the season, slugging a lead-best .506, with 24 long balls. That ranks third most in the conference.

  • Dylan Sayles is the club leader in home runs with seven this season, which is tied for second in the GLIAC.

  • Peter Fusek, who led the conference in stolen bags with 23 last season, is on his way to the title again with 26 thus far.

  • Parkside ranks fifth with a 6.25 ERA.

  • The staff's best feature is their strikeout-to-walk ratio:

    • Third most strikeouts (224)

    • Least walks issued (82)
  • Sam Mommer (3.99) and Noah Gerritson (4.02) are top ten in the GLIAC in ERA.

Scouting No. 23 Davenport:

  • The Panthers are the top dog in the GLIAC with a 7-1 conference record. Overall, they are 21-10.

  • Despite the phenomenal record, the Panthers will roll into the weekend after being on the wrong side of a four-game sweep against a fellow nationally ranked opponent, Lewis.

  • They rank fifth in the conference in team batting average (.289).

  • They have generated a lot of power, with 28 long balls, which is second in the conference behind just Grand Valley State.

  • Dylan Pawenski leads the Panthers in home runs with six, ranking third in the GLIAC.

    • Justin Johnson (5) and Sam Clay (3) join Pawenski in the top ten.

  • Along with the power has come the swing-and-miss, as the Panthers have struck out more than anyone in the conference.

  • The team has excelled on the mound, pitching to a 4.41 ERA, ranking second best.

  • Keegan Batka is the ace of the staff, with a 2.38 ERA across 53.0 innings.

Davenport has historically dominated Parkside, controlling the all-time series 22-3. However, Parkside most recently earned a victory over the Panthers in their final meeting last season. Camden Kearney put the finishing touches on a dramatic 11th-inning walk-off win, ripping a game-winning base hit which capped a two-run inning. Parkside will look to carry that momentum into this weekend.
