4/7/2025 3:28:00 PM

Kenosha, Wis. – The big road trip for the Parkside softball squad continues with six more contests this week. Parkside begins with a battle at The Ballpark at Rosemont—home to both Roosevelt University and the GLIAC Tournament—on Wednesday. Over the weekend, the team will head east to take on Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Scouting Parkside

  • The Rangers enter the week with a 16-16 overall record and a 7-7 conference record.

  • They're in a four-way tie for third place in the conference, along with Wayne State, Davenport, and Grand Valley State.

  • Parkside ranks fifth in the GLIAC with a team batting average of .279.

  • The Rangers have showcased their power this season, leading the conference in home runs with 34.

  • Reigning GLIAC Player of the Year Mia Johnson leads Parkside in numerous categories:

    • 1st in the GLIAC in SLG (1.030), OBP (.528), OPS (1.558), runs scored (38), doubles (12), and home runs (16)

    • 2nd in the nation in home runs

  • Haley Remington (6) and Eden Welling (4) also rank in the top 10 in home runs alongside Johnson.

  • In the circle, Olivia Masnica has been Parkside's ace, pitching to a 3.01 ERA, which ranks seventh in the GLIAC.

Scouting Roosevelt

  • The Lakers enter the week 10-22 overall and 4-10 in conference play.

  • Roosevelt is fighting for a spot in the GLIAC Tournament, currently three wins behind the final spot.

  • They snapped a seven-game losing streak with a victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Davenport on Sunday.

  • Roosevelt and Parkside split a doubleheader in Kenosha on March 26, with Parkside winning via run rule (15-4) and Roosevelt bouncing back for a 5-1 win.

  • Roosevelt ranks second to last in team batting average at .251.

  • They've struggled to generate power, ranking last in home runs with 3.

  • The Lakers have struck out 163 times (second most in the GLIAC) and walked just 80 times (second fewest).

  • In the circle, they've fared better, posting a 3.89 team ERA and issuing just 75 walks, second fewest in the conference behind SVSU.

Scouting SVSU

  • The Cardinals currently lead the GLIAC with a 26-8 overall record and a 13-1 conference record.

  • Heading into a six-game week starting Wednesday against Wayne State, they've won 10 straight games and 15 of their last 16.

  • They swept Parkside earlier this season in a neutral-site doubleheader at Carthage College:

    • Game 1: SVSU won 14-2

    • Game 2: SVSU won 8-6 after a comeback

  • SVSU leads the GLIAC in team batting average (.305) and ERA (2.17).

  • They also top the league in SLG (.484), OBP (.394), doubles (56), and stolen bases (75), and rank second in home runs with 30.

  • Aalana Kimble leads the team with a .393 batting average, ranking third in the conference with 46 hits.

  • Olivia Elliot has powered the lineup with 10 home runs, second most in the GLIAC.

  • Macy Irelan is a top contender for GLIAC Pitcher of the Year, leading the league in ERA (1.43), opponent average (.154), strikeouts (143), and wins (13).

Scouting Wayne State

  • The Warriors and Rangers will wrap up a six-game week by facing off on Sunday.

  • Wayne State enters the week 18-19 overall and 7-7 in conference play.

  • They've split each of their last three GLIAC doubleheaders—against Parkside, GVSU, and Purdue Northwest.

  • Four of their last five games have been decided by one run, including a 3-2 win over Parkside on March 29.

    • Parkside won the first game of that doubleheader 10-1 in five innings.

  • Offensively, Wayne State ranks second in the GLIAC with a team batting average of .293.

  • They've hit 26 home runs, the third most in the conference behind Parkside and SVSU.

  • But they've struggled with plate discipline:

    • A league-high 184 strikeouts (22 more than any other team)

    • A league-low 73 walks

  • Elly Koopman (.378) and Katelyn DeWitt (.361) are both top 10 in conference batting average.

  • Grace Fisher anchors the pitching staff with a 3.06 ERA and has surpassed 100 innings pitched, ranking second in the GLIAC in wins with 10.

After the weekend wraps up, just eight conference games remain for Parkside. But first, their road trip finally comes to an end as they take on Upper Iowa in a non-conference twin bill on Wednesday, April 16, at the Case Softball Complex. Then on the following Friday, Parkside will host Purdue Northwest at home.
