Parkside Falls in Doubleheader Action to SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Parkside softball team returned to the diamond on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers took on the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals in GLIAC doubleheader action. SVSU, who is top of the table in the GLIAC, handled business topping the Rangers 7-0 and 8-4.

Game One
The Rangers offense would be stifled by the Cardinals. SVSU would hold the Rangers hitless through all seven innings of action. Haley Remington and Ava Swain would break up the perfect game opportunity as they each would draw a walk in the contest.

Game Two
Despite home runs from Eden Welling and Mia Johnson, Parkside couldn't keep pace with an early Saginaw Valley State surge, falling 8–4.

Parkside opened the scoring in the top of the first after Mia Johnson singled and later came around to score on a Cardinal error, putting the Rangers ahead 1–0. However, the lead was short-lived, as Saginaw Valley answered with a three-run bottom half, including a two-RBI triple.

After the Cardinals added a run in the second and four more in the third to stretch the lead to 8–2, the Rangers began to chip away. Welling got things started in the third with a solo blast to center, and in the fifth, Johnson delivered a two-run homer to right — her 17th home run of the season — to pull Parkside within four.

While the Parkside pitching staff settled in to hold SVSU scoreless over the final three frames, the Rangers were unable to mount another rally. The Green & White had a runner on in the seventh, but the Cardinals' defense closed the door.

Up Next
The Rangers will now head to Detroit for another GLIAC battle. Parkside will square off against Wayne State on Sunday. First pitch of the double header is slated for 12 p.m. EDT. Coverage can be found at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
