Rangers Round Out Weekend With a Sweep Over Wayne State

DETROIT, Mich. – The Parkside softball team rounded out their weekend action on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers squared off against Wayne State in GLIAC doubleheader action. The Rangers collected two wins to secure the sweep to close out the weekend.

Game One
Wayne State opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally. After a single, the Warriors followed it up with a RBI triple to right field. That runner would later score on an infield single to make it 2–0 Warriors.

The Rangers answered right back in the sixth. Megan Medlin started the frame with a double to center, and after an error moved her to third, a sac fly from Rylee Baetz plated Parkside's first run. One batter later, Taylor Utrata reached on a fielder's choice to score pinch-runner Reese Valha, tying the game at 2–2.

In the 10th, Eden Welling started on second via international tiebreaker. Mia Johnson executed a textbook sacrifice bunt to move her to third, and Haley Remington ripped a single down the left field line to bring in the go-ahead run.

Parkside's defense came up big in the bottom half, retiring the Warriors in order, capped off by a foul out to left.

Ellie Curtis came up big for the Rangers. The junior was rock solid in the circle, claiming her fifth win of the year while going the entire 10 innings for the Rangers.

Game Two
After two quiet frames to start the game, the Rangers broke through in the top of the third. Haley Remington sparked the rally with a leadoff double down the right field line, and the pressure mounted quickly after an infield error and a single by Megan Medlin loaded the bases. Toni Rodriguez came through with a two-RBI single to right center, scoring Remington and Ava Swain. Rylee Baetz followed with a double to the gap in right center, plating Medlin to make it 3-0.

Parkside threatened again in the second and sixth innings, loading the bases both times, but Wayne State managed to escape further damage. Remington led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.

The Rangers' pitching and defense were lights out through the first six innings, allowing just two hits and no runs. Despite a late push by the Warriors in the seventh—highlighted by back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning—Parkside slammed the door. A flyout to center and two more routine outs sealed the win, stranding the tying run at the plate.
