Game Recap: Baseball |

Parkside Falls in Both Battles Against Davenport

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Parkside dropped both games to No. 23 Davenport on Saturday. The Panthers officially clinched the series, holding Parkside in check and allowing just one run all day.

GAME ONE
Parkside put pressure on the Panthers early, loading the bases in the top of the first inning. Owen Brock extended the frame with a two-out single, followed by walks from John Wubben and Jackson Lindquist. However, Davenport managed to escape the jam, shifting the momentum.

After a tough-luck bottom of the first that saw the Rangers commit two errors and allow four unearned runs, Parkside responded in the second. Freshman third baseman Carter Storti drew a leadoff walk and later came around to score on a sharp RBI double to right-center by leadoff hitter Peter Fusek, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

The Rangers were limited to just three hits, but their approach at the plate remained patient as they drew four walks and worked deep counts against the Davenport starter.

Starter Sam Mommer took the loss for Parkside, striking out four over 4.1 innings. The freshman battled against a potent Davenport lineup that capitalized on a few misplays and timely hits, including a two-run homer in the third from Xavier Reisbig.

Davenport controlled the game for most of the way and secured an 11-1 victory.

GAME TWO
The Panthers struck early and often, scoring in three of the first five innings to build a comfortable lead. A two-run second inning got them on the board, followed by a three-run third and another three-spot in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Parkside managed just two hits in the contest—singles by Carter Storti and Andrew Mack—and failed to advance a runner past first base.

The Parkside bullpen combination of William Hyland, Ryan Klukas, Ryan Schissler, and Andrew Halser held the Panthers to one run over the final four innings.

Davenport was once again in full control, clinching the series with an 8-0 victory.
