KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside softball team took to the diamond on Wednesday for midweek GLIAC action. The Rangers hosted the Roosevelt Lakers in doubleheader action. Parkside's offense would dominate in game one en route to a 15-4 victory. The Lakers would get the better of the Rangers in game two, topping them 5-1.
Game One
Parkside's bats were on fire from the first inning, powering them to a dominant 15-4 victory over Roosevelt.
Mia Johnson got things rolling early, doubling in the first before scoring on a wild pitch. The Rangers kept the pressure on, stringing together five hits, including a two-RBI single from
Ava Swain, to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Parkside's offense erupted again in the second, as Johnson,
Toni Rodriguez, and
Haley Remington each launched home runs, pushing the advantage to 9-0. Johnson's home run pushes her season total to 10, making her the fastest player to reach double digits home runs in Division II this season. The Rangers tacked on six more runs in the third, highlighted by an RBI double from
Taylor Utrata and a two-run single from
Megan Medlin.
Roosevelt managed to push across four runs in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to slow Parkside's momentum. The Rangers' defense shut the door in the fifth to secure the win.
Johnson continued her stellar play, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, and two walks. Rodriguez and Remington each added multi-hit performances, while the Parkside pitching combo of
Olivia Masnica and
Hope Maes held Roosevelt to just four hits.
Game Two
A tight defensive battle early on gave way to a Roosevelt offensive surge, as they defeated Parkside 5-1 in a well-fought match up.
Both teams struggled to generate offense in the opening innings. Parkside and Roosevelt combined for just two hits through the first three frames, with pitchers on both sides dominating the early action. Roosevelt finally broke through in the fourth, as a solo home run to left field to give her team a 1-0 lead. The Lakers capitalized on their momentum, adding another run with an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.
Roosevelt's offense continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning. With two outs, the Lakers would widen the gap to 4-0. Parkside fought back in the bottom half, as
Kate Harrison crossed the plate on an RBI double from
Eden Welling, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Lakers tacked on one more insurance run in the six, as they would drive in a run on a fielder's choice, bringing the score to 5-1. Parkside was unable to rally in the final innings, as Roosevelt's pitching and defense held strong to seal the win.
