Preview: Rangers Softball Set for the Drury Classic This Weekend

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside softball team is set to travel south to Missouri this weekend to play in the Drury Classic. The Rangers will face four different opponents across a three-day span. They will open the Drury Classic against Newman on Friday with a 9 a.m. CST first pitch, then follow against MSU Moorhead at 11 a.m. CST. On Saturday the Rangers will face Drury and Minnesota Duluth at 9 and 11 a.m. CST. Parkside will then round out the weekend on Sunday against MSU Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth at 9 and 11 a.m. CST. The Rangers
Parkside enters the weekend with a 5-3 overall record after going 3-3 at the Rosemont Dome last weekend. The Rangers picked up wins over Upper Iowa, MSU Moorhead, and Minnesota Duluth. The Rangers will rematch MSU Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth twice in the Drury Classic.
 
The Rangers top bat heading into the weekend is Mia Johnson who leads the team in batting average at .423. Johnson already has 11 hits on the season with a team leading four home runs.
 
Parkside's pitching staff has been led by the duo of Ellie Curtis and Olivia Masnica. They have thrown 43.2 innings of action between the two of them. Curtis has just one earned run to her ledger in 18 innings pitched for a 0.39 ERA. Masnica has struck out 11 batters and holds a 1.09 ERA across 25.2 innings pitched.
 
Newman
The Jets enter the Drury Classic with a 4-10 overall record. They have picked up wins over Minot State, Rockhurst, East Central, and Arkansas Tech. It will be the first time the Rangers and Jets face off in history.
 
Newman's offense is led by AJ Borja who leads the team in batting average at .400. She's collected seven doubles and a triple along the way. The Jets' best arm is Kinyon DeCorte. DeCorte has a team low ERA of 4.99 and has struck out just four batters in seven appearances.
 
MSU Moorhead
The Dragons enter the weekend with a 6-11 record. The Rangers have already faced the Dragons this season, topping them in the Rosemont Dome 3-2. This will be the fifth time all time the two teams had met with Parkside holding the 4-1 advantage.
 
Offensively for the Dragons they are led by Avery Steffen. She's swinging a team leading .414 batting average and has 24 hits on the year. Steffen is also the top arm for the Dragons, having pitched 39.1 innings of action for a 4.09 ERA.
 
Drury
The Panthers enter the weekend with a 2-8 overall record and will serve as the host for the weekend. Their lone wins came against Newman and Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Panthers and Rangers are former GLVC foes, having met 19 times before. Drury holds the upper hand as they are 11-8 all time against the Rangers.
 
Drury's top bat is Sophia Luetticke who is currently swinging a .393 batting average. She's recorded 11 hits, including two doubles, a triple, and a homerun so far this season. The Panthers top arm is AJ Agers who enters the weekend with a 2.06 ERA while having thrown 17.0 innings of work.
 
Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs enter the Drury Classic with an impressive 10-4 record. The Rangers have already struck a tally in the losing column for the Bulldogs, having beaten them in the Rosemont Dome 6-0. It was one of the Rangers five wins over the Bulldogs all time, while Duluth has taken 12 wins over the Rangers.
 
The Bulldogs are led offensively by Nicole Schmitt who enters the weekend batting .500. She's recorded 22 hits so far in 2025 and has driven in a team leading 23 runs. Pitching wise the Bulldogs look to Allyssa Williams. The junior has been the top arm dealing 36.2 innings of action while holding a team low 2.29 ERA.
