ROSEMONT, Ill. The Parkside softball team continued its impressive start to the 2025 season, picking up two victories in today's doubleheader at The Dome in Rosemont, Illinois. With a 5-1 overall record, the Rangers are off to their best start since 1997, showcasing solid performances both offensively and defensively.
GAME ONE vs. Minnesota St. – Moorhead
The Rangers edged out MSU Moorhead 3-2 in a well-fought contest, powered by the strong pitching of
Olivia Masnica, who moved to 3-0 on the season. Masnica threw a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out two and walking three.
The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the 5th when Parkside broke the deadlock.
Mia Johnson's leadoff solo home run in the 5th inning gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead that would stand until the end. Parkside's offense was limited, with only three hits in the game, but timely plays and solid defense secured the win. The Rangers committed no errors, while MSU Moorhead had one, which proved costly.
For MSU Moorhead, Teagan Clemmons (2-4) took the loss, despite a solid performance where she allowed just three runs on three hits and struck out eight. Avery Steffen and Natalie Gonzalez led the Dragons offensively, each recording a hit and an RBI.
GAME TWO vs. Minnesota Duluth
In the second game of the day, Parkside put together a dominant 6-0 victory over Minnesota Duluth.
Ellie Curtis (2-0) earned the win in the circle, working six innings while allowing only two hits and three walks while striking out five. Her performance kept the Bulldogs at bay throughout the game, as she faced just 23 batters.
The Rangers' offense came alive in the second and third innings. In the bottom of the second, Parkside put up two runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double from
Mia Johnson. They added to their lead with two more runs in the third, powered by a ground-rule double from
Reese Valha and a single by
Haley Remington. Parkside sealed the win with two more runs in the 6th inning, including a crucial two-run single from
Toni Rodriguez.
Minnesota Duluth struggled to get anything going offensively, with just two hits in the game. Allison Luoma (3-2) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over 2.2 innings before being relieved by Maddy Walsh.
