KENOSHA, Wis- Parkside Wrestling opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) competition with a commanding 44–0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) on Thursday, with the Rangers winning all 10 of their bouts.
The dual started at 125lbs, where
Dylan Duvernay gave Parkside a 5-0 lead after defeating Preston Xayachak by tech fall 28-11.
At 133lbs,
Lincoln Flayter secured 5 more points for the Rangers after defeating Chase Hanson in a 16-0 tech fall win. Flayter earned six points in both the first and second period, by two takedowns and near fall points. He finished out the third period with another takedown and earned a riding time point, adding onto the overall score 10-0
In the 141lb bout,
Jordan Craft had the third consecutive tech fall of the day for the Rangers, defeating Bronson Richins 22-7. Craft had two takedowns in the first period and earned two escape points. In the second period, he earned two escape point and had his third takedown of the bout, followed by earning another takedown and four near fall points in the third period, furthering the lead 15-0.
Henry Niebauer edged out Jacob Messner in the 149lb bout, with a 7-1 decision. Niebauer had a takedown in the second period, followed by an escape point and another takedown in the third period, making the overall score 18-0.
Cody Welker won the 157lb bout by sudden victory over Tate Condezo. In overtime, he had a takedown and also earned four near fall points, winning by a total of 20-13. Welker added three points to the overall total, making it 21-0.
Liam Fox started the second half of the dual strong for Parkside at 165lbs. He picked up a 9-3 decision win over Wyatt Pollard, with two takedowns, an escape point, penalty point and riding time point, furthering the lead 24-0.
At 174lbs, No.11 ranked
Dajun Johnson won his bout by fall at 1:14 defeating Max Wiezorek, making the score 30-0.
No. 7 ranked
Brady Schuh defeated Mason Buss in the 184lb bout, with a 18-1 tech fall win. Schuh secured three takedowns and earned an escape point along with eight total near fall points, making the score 35-0 in favor of the Rangers.
Kaden Hooker edged out Xander Kenworth in the 197lb bout, with a 8-1 decision. Hooker earned an escape point and a takedown in the second period, followed by another takedown in the third period, while also earning a riding time point, making the score 38-0.
At 285lbs,
Cooper Caraway recorded the fastest bout of the day, earning a first-period fall over Evan Thompson in just 57 seconds. His win added 6 points to Parkside's overall lead.
With the 44-0 victory, Parkside improves its dual record to 3-0 and is now 1-0 in NSIC conference play. The Rangers will return to action tomorrow, when they compete in the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open, starting at 9:00 am.
