CHICAGO, Ill. – After dropping the opening set, the Parkside Rangers responded with three straight wins to take down the Roosevelt Lakers (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17) on Thursday evening inside the Goodman Center.
The opening set went to the Lakers, who used a 77% sideout percentage to stay in control from start to finish. Despite Roosevelt's efficiency,
Sam Fisch made an immediate impact for the Rangers, recording five kills while hitting .833 in the first set alone. Parkside stayed within reach but ultimately fell 25-21.
The second set saw a momentum shift in favor of the Rangers.
Lucy Russ and
Ava Irvin sparked Parkside from the service line with two aces each, while
Mariena Coon anchored the defense with three blocks. Behind their strong serving and front-row presence, the Rangers evened the match with a convincing 25-19 win.
In the third set, Parkside's offense continued to click, hitting .263 as a team while posting a 72% sideout percentage. Russ and
Lily Ray distributed the ball evenly, combining for 17 assists to keep the Lakers' defense on their heels. Their balanced attack helped the Rangers edge out a 25-21 win and take control of the match.
Parkside came out firing in the fourth set, jumping to a 6–0 lead and never looking back.
Sam Fisch continued to power the offense, adding five kills in the final frame, while
Mariena Coon remained a presence at the net with a solo block and three kills. The Rangers maintained their momentum throughout, closing out the match with a decisive 25-17 victory.
Fisch led the Rangers with an outstanding performance, finishing with 16 kills on .464 hitting while adding three blocks.
Avary Polavin tallied 10 kills and four digs, and Irvin chipped in eight kills, two aces, and two digs. Russ paced the offense with 27 assists while also contributing four aces and nine digs.
Rachel Mueller anchored the back row, leading the team with 12 digs. As a team, Parkside hit .227 and recorded eight total team blocks in a well-rounded effort.
With the victory, the Rangers improved to 17-6 overall and 8-5 in conference play, while Roosevelt dropped to 2-23 (1-12 GLIAC).
Parkside returns to action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they travel to Hammond, Indiana, to take on the Purdue Northwest Pride.
