LANGLEY, B.C. — The Parkside women's basketball team continued its strong start to the 2025–26 season with a 66–47 win over Saint Martin's on Saturday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre. The Rangers controlled the game from start to finish, never trailing on their way to a second straight double-digit victory to open the season.
Parkside set the tone early, scoring the game's first points and never letting the lead go. The Rangers went inside early and often, with Parkside scoring eight of their 12 first quarter points in the paint. In total Parkside scored 40 of their 66 from in the paint. A late three from Saint Martin's trimmed the gap, but Parkside still led 12–8 after the opening quarter.
The second quarter proved to be the turning point. Parkside opened the frame with an 8–0 run, capped by a pull jump jumper from
Peighton Nelson that pushed the lead into double digits for the first time at 20–10 with just over seven minutes to play. The Rangers' defense forced multiple turnovers during the stretch, while Nelson and
Lexi Bugajski continued to find success near the rim.
Katie Hamill and
Cassidy Arni both connected on key buckets late in the period, and Parkside took a 32–19 lead into halftime.
Saint Martin's found some rhythm in the third quarter, but Parkside was able to keep the margin comfortable. Arni scored seven of her 13 points in the frame, and junior forward
Alli Hampel knocked down a corner three to answer a brief Saint Martin's run. The Rangers entered the final quarter leading 48–38 and closed the door with another strong stretch inside. Six different Rangers scored in the final frame while Parkside shot over 57 percent from the floor as a team.
In total four Rangers scored in double figures on the night. Hamill led Parkside in scoring for the second straight game with 16 points, adding five rebounds, four steals, and an assist. Petersen recorded her first double-digit scoring performance of the year with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Arni also finished with 13 points and six boards. Nelson added 10 points, three assists, and two steals, while Bugajski and Hampel combined for 13 points and eight rebounds.
Parkside shot nearly 46 percent from the field and dominated the interior with 40 of its 66 points coming in the paint. The Rangers also forced 15 turnovers and limited Saint Martin's to just 23 percent shooting from three-point range.
With the win, Parkside improves to 2–0 on the season. The Rangers will wrap up their season-opening trip to Canada on Sunday afternoon with a matchup against Western Washington University. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Central (11:45 a.m. Pacific) from the Langley Events Centre.
