LANGLEY, B.C. — The Parkside women's basketball team closed out its season-opening trip to Canada on Sunday afternoon with a 54–49 loss to Western Washington at the Langley Events Centre. The Rangers led for much of the contest, but a 12–0 run by the Vikings in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference.

Parkside started strong, taking a 14-12 lead after the first ten minutes.
Lillie Petersen got the offense going, scoring six quick points for Parkside. The Rangers continued to execute on both ends in the second quarter. Parkside built its lead out to as many as nine points on a
Cassidy Arni jumper with 2:59 remaining in the quarter, but the Vikings were able to rally, pulling within 26-23 at the half.

The Rangers maintained their edge through a low scoring third quarter, using baskets from Petersen and
Katie Hamill to stay in front. A late Petersen layup helped Parkside take a 37–32 lead into the final period.

Western Washington turned the momentum in the fourth, stringing together a 12–0 run over the final 2:37 to grab the lead for good.

Petersen led the Rangers with a career-high 17 points and nine rebounds, while Hamill added 12 points and two steals. Arni finished with 11  points and five rebounds, and
Peighton Nelson recorded six points and a team-high five assists.

Parkside shot 41 percent from the field and held Western Washington to 38 percent shooting while winning the rebounding battle, 33–30. Turnovers were costly for the Rangers, finishing with 21 on the night.

The Rangers finish the opening weekend of the season with a 2–1 record. Parkside will return to action on Thursday, November 14, when they host Maryville at 11:30 a.m. inside De Simone Arena.
