Parkside Falls at Home for First Time This Season in 2-0 Setback to PNW

KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside (5-5-4, 5-3-3 GLIAC) saw its home unbeaten streak come to an end on Friday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Purdue Northwest (3-11-2, 2-7-2) at Wood Road Field. It was the Rangers' first home loss of the year and their first defeat to the Pride in Kenosha since the programs' inaugural meeting back in 2017.

The match opened with Parkside pressing forward, creating early chances through Eduardo Aguilera-Guillen and Jamie Le Comte. The Rangers outshot PNW 10-8 in the first half and kept goalkeeper Mateus Baptista de Souza busy, but the Pride defense stood firm to send the game scoreless into the break.

Momentum shifted after halftime, as Purdue Northwest capitalized on its first major opportunity. In the 49th minute, Alex Ritchie lofted a high lead ball into the box for Landon Potts. After falling to the ground under contact, Potts quickly regained his footing and fired a low shot past Parkside keeper Daniyal Rana for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Parkside continued to press in search of an equalizer, earning four corners in a two-minute stretch midway through the half. Le Comte nearly found the back of the net at 76 minutes, but Baptista de Souza made another strong stop to preserve the Pride's lead. Despite Parkside holding a 6-4 edge in corners, the visitors delivered the dagger late when Potts played provider, slipping a pass to Rami Hassan Zantout for an insurance goal in the 87th minute that sealed the 2-0 result.

PNW finished with a 22-16 edge in total shots and a 10-5 advantage on target. Rana made eight saves for the Rangers, while Baptista de Souza recorded five in the clean sheet. Potts led the Pride attack with five shots, including four on goal, while Zantout added three attempts and two on target.

Parkside will close out the regular season on Sunday with Senior Day at Wood Road Field, hosting second-place Roosevelt. To keep up with Parkside Athletics, visit parksiderangers.com/coverage.
