Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Parkside Takes No. 3 Lakers to the Wire in 1-0 Road Loss

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Parkside women's soccer went toe-to-toe with one of the nation's top programs Friday night, but a 77th-minute strike lifted No. 3 Grand Valley State to a 1-0 victory at GVSU Soccer Field.

The decisive moment came on a corner kick from the right side, where Sophia Morgan bent in a curling ball to the edge of the box. Ivy Wilhelm redirected with a header, setting up Sarah Fromm for a clean finish that stood as the game's only tally.

Despite being outshot 14-4, the Rangers' back line and goalkeeper Tristen Cross kept the Lakers' high-powered offense in check throughout much of the night. Cross finished with four saves, including key stops in the 11th, 46th, and 73rd minutes to keep Parkside level into the late stages.

Offensively, Emily Mikkelson and Ava Rizzitano paced the Rangers with two shots apiece, each putting one on frame. Parkside also earned three corners in the match, including one in the 83rd minute that nearly created an equalizer.

Fromm led all players with five shots for Grand Valley, while Wilhelm added three, including one on goal. Lakers goalkeeper Macie Hunter made two saves to preserve the clean sheet.

With the result, Parkside dropped its first GLIAC contest of the season, moving to 3-1-1 in conference play (3-4-2 overall), while Grand Valley improved to 4-0 in the GLIAC and 7-1 overall.

The Rangers continue conference action Sunday, traveling to Arlington Heights, Ill. to face Roosevelt at noon. Fans can follow live coverage at parksiderangers.com/coverage
