KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside Rangers continued their strong play at home with a straight-set victory over Saginaw Valley State (29-27, 25-18, 25-13) on Saturday afternoon inside De Simone Arena. With the win, Parkside improved to 14-6 overall and 5-5 in GLIAC play.
The opening set was a back-and-forth battle that featured 13 ties and five lead changes. Parkside showed poise under pressure down the stretch, as a late kill from
Mariena Coon and a key block from
Maia Olson and
Avary Polavin helped the Rangers fend off multiple set points and secure the 29-27 win.
Sam Fisch led the way offensively in the opening frame, hitting .357 with six kills to pace the Rangers' attack.
Momentum swung fully in Parkside's favor in the second set. The Rangers' offense found its rhythm, hitting .275 as setters
Lily Ray and
Lucy Russ distributed the ball effectively.
Ava Irvin led the charge with seven kills on a .333 hitting clip, while
Rachel Mueller anchored the defense with five digs. The Rangers held Saginaw Valley to just a .051 hitting percentage, allowing Parkside to pull away and take a commanding 2-0 match lead.
The Rangers left no doubt in the final frame, delivering their most dominant performance of the match. Parkside hit an impressive .440 with just two errors in the set, while their serve pressure forced the Cardinals out of system. The Rangers also posted a strong 78% sideout percentage and recorded three service aces to maintain full control of the frame. Marissa Lootens provided an instant spark off the bench, going a perfect 2-for-2 on her attacks as the Rangers rolled to a 25-13 clincher.
Ava Irvin led the Parkside attack with 13 kills on .290 hitting, while
Sam Fisch and
Avary Polavin each added nine kills.
Sierra Kilbourn provided an efficient eight kills on a .375 clip, and
Mariena Coon chipped in four kills and three blocks. Setters
Lucy Russ and
Lily Ray combined for 36 assists, guiding the Rangers to a .287 team hitting percentage. Defensively,
Natalie Harris and
Rachel Mueller tallied double-digit digs with 10 and 13 respectively, helping Parkside out-dig Saginaw Valley 48–46. The Rangers also tallied five team blocks and three service aces, rounding out a complete performance.
Parkside will return to action next weekend as they are back home to face GLIAC opponents Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan inside De Simone Arena.
