Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Parkside’s Winning Streak Snapped in 1-0 Loss to Ferris State

KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside women's soccer saw its three-match winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Ferris State at Wood Road Field on Senior Day in a physical, hard-fought GLIAC matchup that shifted the top of the standings. The result keeps Ferris State solidly in fourth place, while Parkside drops to second.

Before the match, Parkside honored six seniors — Leah Forde, Emily Mikkelson, Uda Kimba, Makayla Wesemann, Grace Breuchel, and Tristen Cross — for their contributions to the program.

The match's only goal came in the 60th minute off a corner kick from the far-left flag by Anna Thelen. Her cross bounced awkwardly through a crowd in front before finding the foot of Natalia Leavens, who calmly tapped in her second goal of the season to give the Bulldogs the lead.

That one finish proved to be enough, as Ferris State's defense held firm the rest of the way behind sophomore goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke, who collected five saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. It also marked the fourth time this year that Parkside has been held scoreless.

The Rangers generated steady pressure, outshooting Ferris State 11-7 and finishing with a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, including six in the first half. Parkside's best chances came from Steph Salmeron, Kayden Schmidt, Emily Slye, Makayla Wesemann, and Kate Brown, each forcing Ihrke into action. On the other end, Parkside goalkeeper Tristen Cross stopped four of five shots faced to keep her side within reach.

With the loss, Parkside now sits at 6-5-2 overall and 6-2-1 in GLIAC play, while Ferris State improves to 4-4-5 overall and 4-3-2 in conference action.

The Rangers will have a full week to regroup before returning to action next Sunday, Oct. 26, with a noon kickoff at Davenport in Caledonia, Mich.
