Cross, back line deliver first clean sheet as Parkside blanks PNW 3-0

KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside women's soccer completed a dominant season sweep of Purdue Northwest on Sunday at Wood Road Field, cruising 3-0 to improve to 5-1-1 in GLIAC play and tighten its firm hold on second place. Behind goalkeeper Tristen Cross and a composed back line, the Rangers earned their first clean sheet of the year and controlled the match from whistle to whistle.

Parkside struck first just 8:06 in when freshman Stephanie Salmeron netted her first collegiate goal, finishing a setup from Emily Mikkelson to put the Rangers on the front foot. The second came after Salmeron pinched in to steal possession in the midfield; Mikkelson burst through, beat two defenders, and ripped a shot off the left post and in for her third of the season. The dagger arrived in the 79th minute as Mikkelson chipped a ball from right to left that Kate Brown met with a calm, headed finish to cap the scoring.

The numbers matched the eye test. Parkside outshot the Pride 19-10, held a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, and controlled restarts with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Mikkelson posted a one gaol/one assist line and led the side with four shots (two on frame), Salmeron added a goal and assist with three shots, and Brown cashed in late on her second attempt of the day. Cross made three saves in 90 minutes for the shutout. For PNW, Poppy Jackson recorded two saves in 82:59 before a late change in goal.

With five wins in seven league matches and points in six of those, Parkside continues to dictate GLIAC play, stacking results and separating in the table as the schedule turns to the back half.

Next up: Parkside is back in action Friday at 1 p.m., hosting No. 3 Grand Valley for the second time this season.
