ALLENDALE, MICH. — The Parkside Rangers battled hard but ultimately fell in straight sets to No. 21 Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon, dropping the match 20–25, 21–25, 21–25.
Grand Valley State came out strong in the opening set, taking a 25–20 win over Parkside. The Lakers' offense was efficient, hitting .394 as a team to set the tone early. Despite the loss,
Ava Irvin was a bright spot for the Rangers, hitting an impressive .667 with four kills and adding two service aces in the set.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle, but the Lakers capitalized on timely runs to pull away late. Parkside hit .148 in the set and recorded two aces, while Grand Valley State continued to find success offensively at a .257 clip.
In the third, the Rangers showed resilience, improving their attack to .190 and finishing with 14 kills. Ultimately, Grand Valley State held strong to secure the set and the match, hitting .238 in the final frame to close out the 25–21 win.
Ava Irvin led the way for Parkside, finishing with a team-high 10 kills while hitting an impressive .417. She also added two service aces and four digs in a strong all-around performance. Setter
Lucy Russ notched her 11th double-double of the season, recording 13 assists and 13 digs while adding one ace.
Natalie Harris anchored the back row, leading the team with 14 digs and providing steady defense throughout the match.
With the loss, Parkside falls to 10–6 overall and 3–6 in GLIAC play. Next weekend, the Rangers will compete in the Midwest Crossover Tournament in Hammond, Indiana, facing off against a slate of regional opponents in one of the nation's largest NCAA Division II volleyball events.
