Rangers Hold Off Pride, Improve to 7-1 on Road

Hammond, Ind. – In their first game of 2025, the Parkside Rangers handled the Purdue Northwest Pride on the road, 69-60. Parkside rode the momentum of a big third quarter en route to the victory. This win marks their seventh of the season and caps a 4-1 road trip.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Cassidy Arni notched her second double-double of the season, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Peighton Nelson scored 17 points for the second consecutive game.
  • Sheridan Flauger was the only other Ranger in double figures, netting 11 points along with seven boards and four assists.

How It Happened:
The Rangers began the game hot, jumping out to a 10-3 advantage in the first four minutes. Sheridan Flauger and Jaelyn Derlein connected on back-to-back triples in the early going. Two minutes later, Lillie Petersen joined the fun from deep, sinking a triple of her own. After knocking down three of five three-point attempts in the first quarter, the Rangers took a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.

Parkside continued to apply offensive pressure in the second quarter, despite not hitting any three-pointers. In fact, they went 0-for-4 from beyond the arc. Ironically, they were a perfect 8-for-8 inside the perimeter. Peighton Nelson began the quarter with four quick points, sparking the offensive barrage. Flauger dished out back-to-back assists to both Nelson and Arni on backdoor cuts, quickly pushing the lead back up to eight points. Nelson wasn't done, finishing an emphatic and-one to cap a seven-point quarter. The Rangers closed the half on a 10-3 run, with made shots from Chloe Van Zeeland and Kaalyn Petersen, and led 35-24 at the break.

Parkside's best scoring quarter came in the third. Nelson started the quarter as she ended the last, with a layup to get things going. The Rangers once again shot 8-for-12 from the field, this time mixing in a pair of triples. Derlein and Arni assisted each other on back-to-back daggers from three-point range. Arni followed that sequence with yet another made basket, finishing the quarter with nine points. As a team, the Rangers scored 21 in the quarter.

Despite being outscored by six points in the fourth, the Rangers held off the Pride and secured yet another road victory. They are now 7-1 in road games and 7-3 overall. This win also improves their conference record to 2-1, leaving them one game behind first place in the early stages of the 2024-25 season.
