How it happened:
It was a slow start in the scoring column for both sides in Allendale, with just five points on the board in the first three minutes. Peighton Nelson got the Rangers going offensively by ripping down an offensive rebound and laying it in for the team's first points. The defensive battle continued through the first 10 minutes of the game, with Cassidy Arni highlighting the effort with a massive block in transition. Despite Parkside's strong defensive effort, they trailed 15-8 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Chloe Van Zeeland got things started by hitting a tough shot over Rylie Bisballe in the post. However, Bisballe responded with a make of her own, and the Lakers continued to have an answer for every Parkside score. Grand Valley State's defense dominated in the second quarter, forcing Parkside into 13 turnovers in the first half. The Rangers shot better in the second quarter, hitting 45% from the field, but they were once again outscored and entered halftime trailing 33-20.
Nothing changed in the second half as No. 1 Grand Valley State kept their foot on the gas. They held Parkside to just two points through the first five minutes of the third quarter. After the drought, Sheridan Flauger found her stroke, sinking Parkside's first triple. Cassidy Arni closed out the quarter with a driving bank shot just before the horn, pulling Parkside within 17 points heading into the fourth.
Grand Valley State carried their momentum into the final quarter and defeated Parkside by a score of 72-43. After the loss, Parkside fell to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
