Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ranger's Secure Win Over Flyers with 88th Minute Goal

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside women's soccer team returned to Wood Road Field for a Sunday afternoon battle against the Lewis Flyers. The Rangers, fresh off their season opening win, now move to 2-0 on the season after a 1-0 victory over the Flyers.

"I thought we struggled through a lot do the first half but we made some adjustments at halftime that our Rangers executed really well to help us control more of the second half. I couldn't ask for much more from our back line and keeper today. They were fantastic," said head coach Brittany Nikolic after the win. "It took a while but the team kept at and I thought the goal was fantastic. Nadiia played a great through ball and Mik was unselfish so Ava could bury it. It was a great opening weekend!"

Inside the Box Score

  • Ava Rizzitano picks up her first career goal, recording the game winning goal in the 88th minute. The Kenosha native ended the day with seven total shots, putting four on frame.
  • Lola Minic shined in her second consecutive start. The freshman collected six saves along with another clean sheet.
  • The Rangers as a team posted 20 shots on the afternoon.

How it Happened

The first half featured plenty of opportunities for both sides. The first 45 minutes featured 12 total shots between both teams with Lewis leading the way with seven. The halftime whistle would blow without a goal on the board.

Parkside would come out in the second half with a strong offensive attack. The Rangers would outshoot the Flyers in the second half 15-6.

Just when the game looked to be settling for a tie the Rangers would counter with an attack starting from the back. Nadiia Ivenchenko would send a perfect through ball to Emily Mikkelson. Mikkelson would be one on one with the keeper and find teammate Ava Rizzitano to her left. With a wide-open net, Rizzitano would slot it home in the 88th minute to secure the 1-0 win.
