KENOSHA, Wis. - The Parkside women's soccer program opened GLIAC play on Sunday afternoon as they hosted the Ferris State Bulldogs at Wood Road Soccer Field. The weather was a factor, as both teams battled in the September rain. The Rangers would fall at the hands of the Bulldogs in a close 1-0 scoreline.
"This one is a tough result for me. I think we did enough to get at least a tie out of the game today. we defended really well and built the ball up the field nicely, but our execution in front of goal was lacking, and we didn't do enough to test their goalkeeper or commit the numbers we needed in front of goal. But we saw many positives in our play and look forward to our next opportunity with a big GLIAC road trip next week," said head coach
Brittany Nikolic following the match.
Inside the Box Score
- Despite the loss, freshman Lola Minic shined in goal. The Kenosha native collected a career high seven saves while also clearing numerous crosses.
- The Rangers offense struggled in the rain. Parkside was able to land just one of their nine shots in the match on frame.
How it Happened
Both sides played even soccer in the first half. Ferris State would fire off just three more shots in the opening half of play, holding the 6-3 advantage in the category. Neither side would be able to find the back of the net as the score would remain at 0-0 as the halftime whistle blew.
The dagger came in the 80th minute, as the Bulldogs would capitalize on a corner kick opportunity. The initial shot would be saved, but the spilled save and lack of clearance led to the Bulldog goal, giving them the 1-0 advantage with just 10 minutes remaining in the match. The Rangers would try to find the equalizing goal in the final minutes of play, but would fall short.
