Rangers Offense Erupts in Big Win Over UIS

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Parkside men's soccer team traveled south to Illinois for their first away match of the 2024 campaign on Thursday afternoon. The Rangers handled business in an impressive 5-1 victory over the Prairie Stars.

Inside the Box Score
How it Happened
The scoring would be opened in the 12th minute by UIS. The Prairie Stars goal would give them the 1-0 advantage and forced the Rangers to play from behind for the first time this season.

The Rangers would search for an answer, and finally found one in a goal by Valentin Sandoval in the 43rd minute. Sandoval would finish a ball that slid across the top of the 18-yard box from Steffan Zekanovic to knot the score up at 1-1. That scoreline would hold heading into the half.

It didn't take much time out of the halftime break for the Rangers to once again find the back of the net. A foul drawn in the 54th minute by Chris Estrada in the box would give the Rangers a penalty kick opportunity. Jules Peycelon would step up to the spot and beat the keeper to the left to give the Rangers the 2-1 lead.

Parkside would look to add insurance to their one goal lead. In the 63rd minute, Jamie Le Comte would do just that. Le Comte would finish a lofted ball from Luis Flores to give the Rangers a two goal advantage with 27 minutes remaining as the score would move to 3-1.

The Rangers weren't done yet as they would find the back of the net for the fourth time just ten minutes later. Matteo Quintero would dish the ball off to Eduardo Aguilera-Guillen who would finish for the Rangers fourth goal of the afternoon. Aguilera-Guillen's second goal of the season would make the score 4-1.

The cherry on top came in the 81st minute. Chris Estrada would receive a pass from Bryan Torres and bury the ball in the back of the net to score his first goal of 2024. Estrada's goal would cap off the scoring as the Rangers picked up the victory on the road 5-1.
