ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Parkside Softball team saw their 2024 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2024 GLIAC Softball Tournament. The Rangers matched up with the Purdue Northwest Pride. The game played out much like the first, with runs coming at a premium. The Pride were able to score enough, with two runs in the sixth being enough to down Parkside 3-1.
Olivia Masnica was stellar once again inside the circle for the Rangers. She worked six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.
Haley Remington drove in the lone run for the Rangers offensively.
Mia Johnson and
Taylor Delgado both had extra-base hits.
Pitching ruled a majority of the day for both sides. Masnica and the Rangers worked in and out of trouble in the second, stranding two. Parkside had their best early opportunity in the top of the third. With one out and a runner on third, PNW was able to put a perfect throw from the first basemen to the catcher to keep the game scoreless.
PNW finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth when Michko homered to right center. The Rangers worked in and out of trouble again in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, Masnica induced a popout and a groundout to strand the bases loaded.
Parkside was able to answer in the top of the sixth.
Mia Johnson led the inning off with a double to left. She then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and came into score on a sac fly by
Haley Remington.
The Pride answered right back, plating two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. Parkside was able to bring the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh but was unable to rally.
