Rangers Pick Up Split Against Ferris State

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside softball opened the home portion of their season on Monday afternoon against Ferris State. Under the solar eclipse the Rangers picked up a much needed win in game one over the Bulldogs, 6-5. The Bulldogs got their revenge in game two, downing the Rangers 12-3.

Game One
Hope Maes would get the start on the mound for the Rangers in game one. Maes threw a brilliant complete game in the win. Through the seven innings she failed to surrender a walk while allowing eight hits and striking three. Mia Johnson swung the hot bat for the Rangers, driving in three of the Rangers runs. Her and teammate Rylee Baetz recorded multiple base knocks.

The Rangers would open the first inning tallying a run on a Johnson single into left field to score Cassie Rutledge. The Bulldogs to respond immediately in the top half of the second, executing the small ball game to perfect as a squeeze bunt would score a Ferris State run to knot the score up at 1.

Ferris State would string together a three run third inning to take the lead heading into the bottom half of the frame. Ferris State would hold a 4-1 advantage over the Rangers.

Parkside's offense started the comeback in the bottom half of the third inning, posting a run off another Johnson base hit, this time for a double. The Rangers truly came alive in the bottom half of the fifth inning. The Rangers put together five hits, three of which went for extra bases, to score four runs in the inning. Johnson started it all with a sacrifice fly to score Taylor Delgado. The Rangers made it work with two outs as a Baetz double to right, a Medlin double down the left field line and a Tia Livernash single up the middle would lead to the other Ranger runs in their massive inning. Parkside went into the top half of the sixth with a solid 6-4 lead.

Ferris State tried to build their own comeback bid in the seventh inning, plating one run in the inning. But the Rangers defense held strong closing the door on the Bulldogs to secure the 6-5 victory.

Game Two
Game two's scoring was opened immediately in the top half of the first inning, The Bulldogs pushed across four runs in the inning on just three hits.

The Rangers answered with runs of their own in the bottom half of the third on a two run shot to right center field off the bat of Haley Remington. The Rangers would still trail 4-2.

The Bulldogs would go on to add insurance runs. They would plate one run in the top of the fourth inning, then go on to tack four more runs in a big fifth inning. The Ferris State lead would swell to 9-2.

The Rangers would look to make up some ground in their half of the fifth inning. Mia Johnson continued her hot streak, driving in Rutledge on a two out single. Parkside entered the sixth inning still trailing 9-3.

Ferris State put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, plating three more runs to make the score 12-3. The Rangers offense couldn't produce anymore runs on the day as Ferris State would go on to win in a lopsided 12-3 scoreline.
