HAMMOND, Ind. – The Parkside softball team returned to action on Friday afternoon. The Rangers took on the Purdue Northwest Pride in a GLIAC doubleheader. The Rangers fell in both games, 11-2 in game one and 14-11 in game two.
Game One
The Pride wasted no time on offense, posting seven total runs across the first three innings of the game.
The Rangers got to work in the fifth inning. A
Taylor Delgado double to left center would set up
Haley Remington to drive her in with a single up the middle to get Parkside's first runs on the board. Parkside would then utilize some two-out magic as
Megan Medlin would send a single through the left side to score their second run of the game. The Rangers would enter the bottom half of the fifth down 7-2.
PNW tacked on an insurance run in the fifth, and delivered the fatal blow to the Rangers in the sixth inning. The Pride scored three runs in the sixth to win the game in a 11-2 scoreline.
Game Two
The Rangers drew first blood in the top of the first inning of game two. Delgado would lead off the game with a double into the left center gap. Remington once again took care of business with a triple to score Delgado.
Rylee Baetz would hit a well placed tweener to score Remington and give the Rangers the 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
The Pride immediately got to work, answering the Rangers with a three run first inning of their own. Parkside would knot the score back up at three in the top half of the second. PNW added another five runs in their half of the second inning to make the score 8-3 in favor of the Pride.
PNW kept rolling, plating four runs in the third, making the score 12-3. Parkside immediately got to work in the fourth inning. The Ranger offense would explode with a five run fourth inning, headlined by a
Mia Johnson three run double and a Medlin two run double.
The Rangers offense would continue to chip away at the PNW lead in the top half of the sixth. Johnson continued to swing the hot stick, knocking another double to drive in a Ranger run. Parkside would score two more runs by taking advantage of a Pride fielding error to edge closer, 14-11. The Rangers couldn't pull off the late game comeback as they were shutdown by PNW in the seventh inning.
